MEDINA COUNTY, OHIO – Medina County Treasurer John Burke has announced that 78,031 first half 2020 property tax bills were mailed on January 13th to county property owners. The official payment due date for these tax bills is February 12, 2021. Treasurer Burke noted that the total amount of first half real estate taxes billed is $171,136,195, with the total for the year to be $333,134,443. Treasurer Burke wants taxpayers to be aware that recent nationwide delays in mail delivery may affect prompt delivery and receipt of the tax bills. Even with possible delivery delays, Ohio Revised Code states that it is the responsibility of property owners to pay their real estate property taxes by the due date for each half collection. If you do not receive your tax bill by mid- to late-January, Treasurer Burke recommends calling his office at 330.725.9748 or visiting the Treasurer’s website at medinacountytreasurer.com to look up your tax bill. Just click “Search and Pay Taxes” in the left column to find the proper tax bill amount. You can then print an official tax bill for paying by mail, in person, via drop-box or by using one of our online payment options. “With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing into this tax payment period, the health and safety of county residents is one of our top priorities. My office is following the best practices recommended by the Ohio Governor and Health Department,” Burke said. “We have installed cashier barriers, frequently clean public areas, have marked social distancing areas and face masks are worn by cashiers, along with regular hand washing and daily symptom assessments of our staff.” “The office is now open for in-person payments, but taxpayers should be aware that a variety of easy, fast and safe online payment options are available through our secure website and mobile connection,” notes Treasurer Burke. Taxpayers can pay by electronic check, credit card or PayPal account. The vendor fees charged for each of these options are paid directly to the vendors. Medina County does not receive any part of the fees. In addition, PayPal Credit offers an option which allows payments over 6 months with no interest charged. “We have seen many taxpayers take advantage of this opportunity to gain extra time to pay. They meet the due date and avoid a 10% late payment charge,” said Burke. More information is available on the PayPal website. This option is subject to prior credit approval and vendor charges apply. Payments may be made in person at the Treasurer’s office at 144 N. Broadway, Medina, from 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday thru Friday. The office will be open until 6:00pm on the February 12th due date. You will need to present your entire tax bill at time of payment. Checks, cash or credit cards – Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express – are accepted over the counter. A convenience fee will be assessed by the vendor for all credit card payments. Tax payments which are mailed MUST be postmarked no later than the February 12th due date to avoid a 5% penalty; payments made after February 12th will be assessed a 10% penalty.
