2nd Half Property Tax Payments Due August 28, 2026

Medina County Treasurer John Burke announced that 67,566 second half 2025 property tax bills will be mailed to county property owners Thursday, August 6th. The total dollar amount of real estate taxes billed for the second half is $204,658,816. The official payment due date for these tax bills is August 28, 2026.

Treasurer Burke said the delay in producing and mailing the 2nd half tax bills was caused by the new Ohio tax law changes which required the County Auditor to make computer software changes to accurately calculate the tax amounts. All eighty eight counties in Ohio experienced a delay in getting property tax bills out this time.
According to Treasurer Burke the major tax law change was the inflation cap credit. This change affected six of Medina County’s eight school districts which were under the “20 mill floor” and included Black River, Brunswick, Buckeye, Cloverleaf, Highland School Districts and the Career Center. Those schools under the 20-mill floor received over $14 million in higher (unvoted) property tax revenue this year with the increase in property values from the County Auditor’s reappraisal last year. House Bill 186 capped that tax increase to the rate of inflation.

This inflation cap credit calculated by the County Auditor and applied to the 2nd half tax bills will credit back $5.5 million dollars to taxpayers in those school districts affected. Burke said this credit dollar amount will be labeled as “Inflation Cap Credit” on the tax bill.

If property owners do not receive a tax bill in the mail, Treasurer Burke recommends checking the Treasurer’s website at www.medinacountytreasurer.com to look up their tax bill. Just click “Search and Pay Taxes” in the left column to find your tax bill amount. Taxpayers can then print an official tax bill for paying by mail or in person. Or taxpayers can make a payment online and then print a receipt.

Treasurer Burke noted “tax payments made online are easy and safe to make”. Taxpayers can pay online by electronic check ($1.50 fee), by credit card, or PayPal account (fee of 2.5% of the amount paid) or by debit card (fee of 1.99% of the amount paid). The vendor fees charged for each of these options are paid directly to the bank vendor, Medina County does not receive any part of the fees.

You may also pay by phone toll-free at 1.888.607.8389 using Visa, Mastercard or Discover credit cards, and e-check. The same vendor fees apply.

If you are paying by check, convenient 24-Hour Drive-Up Drop Boxes may be found at the following locations:
·     Treasurer’s Office, County Administration Building, 144 North Broadway Street, Medina
·     Brunswick City Hall, 4095 Center Road, Brunswick
·     Lodi Library, 635 Wooster Street, Lodi
·     Wadsworth Municipal Building, 120 Maple Street, Wadsworth
Make sure to include your tax bill stub with your check.

Payments may be made in person at the Treasurer’s office at 144 N. Broadway, Medina, from 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday thru Friday. The office will be open until 6:00pm on the August 28th due date. You will need to present your entire tax bill at time of payment. Checks, cash, or credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express) are accepted over the counter. The same vendor fees apply.

Tax payments which are mailed MUST be postmarked no later than the August 28 due date to avoid a 5% penalty; payments made after September 7th will be assessed a 10% penalty.   We suggest you mail your payment early or walk it into the  Post Office and have them postmark  the envelope in your presence.
